Businessman Docked For Defrauding May and Baker Nig. PLC

A businessman, Kelechi Anyanwu has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly defrauding a popular pharmaceutical company, May and Baker Nig. PLC to the tune of N6m and bolted away.

The alleged fraud took place at the company’s premises located at Sapara Street in Ikeja Lagos.

Anyanwu reportedly obtained products worth about the money with an agreement to deliver the products to customers and pay the money into the company’s account.

However, it turned out that the arrangement was a scam because the suspect never fulfilled his own side of the bargain.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that after Anyanwu received the products, he reportedly diverted them and did not deliver the goods nor the money to the company.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the company made every effort to locate Anyanwu but he was nowhere to be found as he had reportedly sold the goods and went into hiding.

The alleged scam was reported to the police and Anyanwu was arrested and detained at the Ikeja police division.

At the police station, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Anyanwu was asked to refund the money but he said he had no such money to refund.

He was charged before Ogba Magistrates court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Code.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr T.O. Shomade granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 2 August 2017.
