The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ikeja Local Government Chapter, has honoured the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr James Abiodun Faleke, and Ikeja Local Government Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), with leadership awards for their contributions to community development and humanitarian service.
Faleke received the Servant Leadership Merit Award while Dauda was presented with the Servant Stewardship Leadership Award at CAN’s 2026 Revival Programme, themed “Thy Kingdom Come,” held at Christ the Light Church, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
Speaking after receiving the award, Dauda thanked the association for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
“On behalf of my family, the executive and legislative members of the council, I want to thank you very much. This reward is for more work. It is indeed a challenge to my team,” he said.
He dedicated the award to the people of Ikeja, who entrusted him with their mandate about 16 months ago, and pledged to intensify efforts to improve their welfare.
Receiving the award on behalf of Faleke, the Supervisor for Environment in Ikeja Local Government, Hon Edward Aragbonfoh, said the lawmaker appreciated the recognition, describing it as encouragement to sustain his commitment to public service and community development.
He assured that Faleke would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the constituency. He also appealed to churches across the constituency to support the lawmaker’s political aspiration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his sermon, the founder and Senior Pastor of Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM), Pastor Wole Oladiyun urged political and religious leaders to seek divine wisdom in the discharge of their responsibilities, warning against greed and the misuse of public resources.
Drawing from Luke 2:52, he said effective leadership required wisdom, sound judgement and the ability to manage people with different interests and temperaments.
He reminded public office holders that positions of authority were temporary and should be used to build lasting legacies.
“We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that we can carry nothing out,” he said, urging leaders to remain accountable in the management of public resources.
Oladiyun also identified righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit as essential values of God’s kingdom, calling on Christians to uphold them in their families, communities and places of leadership.
Earlier, CAN Ikeja Coordinator, Evangelist Rotimi Olufemi Ajayi, led the congregation in worship and prayers for divine intervention in Nigeria. He anchored his exhortation on Matthew 6:10, with Matthew 6:9–13 as the Bible reading, and also referenced Isaiah 40:31.
Rev. Kola Olakunle of First Baptist Church, Ikeja, led prayers for the Church in Nigeria, while the founder of Minister of God Prayer Network International. Bishop Mrs Bola Oyegbami prayed for Ikeja, Lagos State and the country.
The revival programme brought together Christian leaders and public office holders to reflect on faith, responsible leadership, public accountability and service to humanity.
