The Proprietress of E-Reigns International School, Mrs Bisola Lawal has appealed to parents and other stakeholders in child care to “catch them young” in sporting activities.
Lawal, who spoke on the sideline of the school first inter-house sport competition said parents needs to encourage their children in developing their sporting skills.
She said that it is a very important thing to discover what sport a child is interested in and not limiting them to reading always.
“Inter-house sports in schools are places we need to catch them young, it is there we will identify a child who can play football, run, jump, march, skates among others.
“It is a time where we will help pupils discover their talents while still pursuing their educational career.
She advised parents to stop discouraging their wards from taking part in sports, describing it as a tool to promote discipline and hard work while still studying.
“The biggest thrust must come from the grassroots level, if we don’t catch them young, how then do we raise future champions for our country?.
“I suggest sporting activities should be made mandatory for every school and as an integral part of the curriculum for Nursery, primary and secondary schools.
She, however, urged parents to encourage and find means to help the child practice any sporting talents they discover in their wards.
