The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Lagos State Branch, has expressed their disappointment over the invasion of the Federal High Court by DSS operatives in Abuja.

P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Chairman of CDHR, Comrade Alex Omotehinse.

“We are highly disappointed with the exhibition of thuggery, insane passion for lawlessness, contempt and disrespect for the rule of law by the agents of the Department of State Services DSS within the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja, while attempting to re-arrest Comrade Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare on Friday 6th December, 2019.”

Eventually Sowore and Bakare were re-arrested by the DSS in spite of being on bail granted by the Federal High Court.
He said that CDHR has watched the shameful videos of the incident in public domain and posits that it was disgraceful and a violation of the law by the officers of the Department of State Services, an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He stated that CDHR finds it disgraceful that this ‘Court riot’ occasioned by the high handedness and insensitivity of the security operatives interrupted judicial proceedings and made the Presiding Judge to abandon judicial proceedings for safety concerns.
“The CDHR Lagos Branch strongly condemns the action of the Department of State Security, which is another in the series of impunity. The invasion of the Court by the agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria runs contrary to the avowed assurances of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that he will ensure that the Federal Government and agencies under it obeys Court orders.”
“The disrespect of the Court by the DSS is a rape on our democracy as many Nigerians are still in unlawful custody and not charged to Court” he said.
The CDHR urged all Nigerians to be alive to their responsibilities as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is ready to partner with all well meaning Nigerians and other civil society organisations to ensure that the rights of Nigerians as guaranteed by Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended are not trampled upon by any agency of government.

The CDHR therefore, demands as follows:
1. That the National Assembly should immediately investigate this shameful conduct by the DSS and ensure that all persons found culpable face the wrath of the law.
2. That the National Assembly should take a bold step to checkmate the recklessness and lawlessness of the Federal Executive to be more responsible and responsive to the public.
3. That the Attorney General of the Federation, being the Chief Law Officer of the Federation, should advise the Federal Government on the point of law.
4. The NBA should also ensure that the lawyer that held Sowore and dragged him on the floor in the open Court before he was whisked away by the DSS  be properly investigated and brought to book.

“We thank all Nigerians who have expressed displeasure over this sad incident” Comrade Alex Omotehinse stated.

  • The action of the DSS is condemnable, repressive, violent and ridiculous violation of the principle of separation of power..
There is no doubts that DSS is carrying out the orders and dictates of the undemocratic and despotic Government of Gen Mohammed Buhari (Rtd)
The Nigeria People will have the last laugh when this madness will be confined to the inglorious Dustin of history.
SOWORE has committed no crime for demanding for Revolution , the demand is on the street, markets, factories offices.barracks and creeks and all corners of the Nigeria for an end to this Regime and his ruinous ruling class.
The clarion call is System Change now! NO to Regime change.
Let me assured this Regime ,his hangers on. agents and their instrument of oppression that we can not be cowed , intimidated and enslaved in our fatherrland. Struggles Continues and Victory is assured! Kudos to the CDHR.
