The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Lagos State Branch, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the founder of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, who was reportedly arrested by the operatives of the DSS.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Mr. Sowore Omoyele, who was the presidential candidate of AAC at the last election, was arrested at about 1:25am on Saturday 3rd August, 2019, in his apartment and whisked away to an unknown destination.
The called for his immediate release was issued by the CDHR, Lagos branch, Comrade Alex Omotohinse. He revealed that the abductors of Sowore were men of the Department of State Security (DSS) and that during the invasion of Sowore’s residence his car was crushed by the abductors and they also collected the mobile phone of Sowore’s son which was with his father during the invasion.
It was reported that Sowore has been rendered incommunicado as all his mobile phones has been seized by the abductors from the office of the DSS.
Sowore’s arrest must be in connection to the planned #REVOLUTIONNOW protest slated to be kick start on Monday 5th of August 2019.
“We must remind this Buhari Government that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended gives Sowore or any other Nigerian the right to protest and freedom of expression with right to lawful assembly.
If Sowore’s arrest was because of the planned protest, why can’t they wait till the day of protest, or why are they in a hurry?”
“We need to remind Mr. Buhari what brought him to office maybe he must have forgotten so quick, that it was PEOPLES REVOLUTION from 2014 to 2015 that led to his emergence as the President of Nigeria.
During the last administration, led by His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Nigerians protested against his government day and night but Jonathan never prevented nor arrested anybody for protesting against his government.”
“The President must be called to order by the National Assembly and he must know that this is a Democratic government not military government.”
“When Jonathan was President in this country, Buhari himself has led protest against Jonathan government. Buhari had insulted and accused several sitting presidents in this country for mis-governance and he was not prevented or arrested for exercising his constitutional right.
Buhari should respect Sowore Omoyele as a presidential candidate in the 2019 general election.”
“For the record since Buhari was overgrown in 1985, nobody heard of him until he contested and lost election against Obasanjo in 2003. Buhari’s criticism of government in Nigeria began immediately his lost the election in 2003, he increased his volume of criticism in 2007 when he lost against his fellow statesman late Yar’adua in the 2007 election and 2011.”
“This government has failed Nigerians therefore it deserves to be condemned. Since the return to civil rule in 1999, Buhari’s regime has recorded the highest arrest of critics. Buhari’s government has failed in all ramifications, security of lives and property is zero, we can no longer travel safely on our roads, killings everywhere and kidnapping in high rate Boko Haram insurgents are still killing our soldiers and innocent Nigerians in the North and herdsmen are killing villagers. Buhari and his DSS did not deem it fit to address that, but they are most concerned about innocent citizen that are complaining.”
“In an ideal society Buhari ought to have resigned as President for his government has failed to provide adequate security for Nigerians.
We hereby call on the leadership of the National Assembly to call this President Buhari who has turned himself to civilian dictator to order to release Omoyele Sowore unconditionally.
