Chief Dr. (Mrs.) Nkoli Imoh Receives Humanitarian Service Award in Dubai

International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements and advocacy for gender equality.

It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognised each year on March 8. It brings together governments, women’s organisations, corporations and charities.

The original aim is to achieve full gender equality for women. A gender pay gap persists across the globe and women are still not present in equal numbers in business or politics. Figures show that globally, women’s education, health and violence towards women is still worse than that of men, and according to a 2017 report by the World Economic Forum, it could still take another 100 years before the global equality gap between men and women disappears entirely.

In a special edition to mark the 2018 event, the founder and financier of Adadioramma Foundation, Chief Dr (Mrs.) Nkoli Imoh was honoured in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with a Humanitarian Service Award among other women across the globe for their role in women empowerment as organized by Baden International Business School, Switzerland in partnership with Sky-high Security Safety and Skills Limited.

The great Amazon, Chief Dr (Mrs.) Nkoli Imoh has empowered over ten thousand women mostly in Southern Nigeria through her foundation.

In her speech, Chief Mrs. Imoh noted that without women’s empowerment and gender equality, society would not be able to achieve the desired goals and their full development potential.

She also said that women had shown greater resolve in peace building processes, but their needs were overlooked in peace agreements, at donor conferences and in post-conflict legal reform — a situation that needed to be rectified.

Optimistically, Chief Mrs Imoh said that women would continue to be a primary force in influencing the development of future generations of Nigerians.

She also pleaded that efforts should be made to ensure greater numbers of women held positions in politics and Government through quotas or affirmative action, thus allowing them to participate more in decision-making processes.

Others from Nigeria who were honoured at the event include the wife of Sokoto state governor, Her Excellency, Maryam Aminu-Tambuwal; the wife of Plateau state governor, Her Excellency Regina Lalong and wife of Benue state governor, Her Excellency, Eunice Ortom.
