It was an emotional atmosphere at Grace and Mercy Restoration Ministry, Ijegun area of Lagos, after the President of Igbo Buru Otu social cultural organisation, Chief Chika C. Nwokedi, made a vow at altar to adopted a 10-year old girl, who begged him to be her father.

P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that the little girl, Miss Chioma Steve, lost her father nine years ago when she was a year old. Since then, she had seen children mentioning their father but she never called anyone father having lost hers.
The little Chioma, who met Chief Nwokedi at a function at NNPC area of Lagos, went to him and boldly told him that she wants him to be her father as she had lost her father some years ago.

According to Chief Nwokedi, he went for a function at NNPC area of Ejigbo, Lagos and he was shocked when the little Chioma came to him and told him that she wanted him to be her daddy. Nwokedi said he was surprised by her demand but he inquired further about her and she revealed that her father was late.
“I then asked her to come to the Church with her mother where I will make a vow before God to adopt her as my daughter for life” he said.
Nwokedi, in the presence of the congregation, made a vow that he has adopted Chioma as his daughter and declared that as he intends to train his own children up to the university level so he will train Chioma and treat her as his own daughter in the presence of his wife, Pastor Tessy Nwokedi and Chioma’s mother, Mrs. Siluedine, who broke down in tears.

The visibly elated mother told P.M.EXPRESS correspondent that she lost her husband nine years ago, lost her job recently and had been finding it difficult to take care of her children. She revealed that before the incident happened, Chioma was sent home for not paying school fees and she had to beg the school management for more time before Chioma’s encounter with Chief Nwokedi.
She thanked God for using Nwokedi to bless her family and stated that what happened was purely an act of God.
Nwokedi’s wife, Pastor Tessy, said that what her husband did was a call to duty because he had been a benevolent giver without bound. She said since her husband has made the declaration, that Chioma has automatically become a member of their family and they would take care of her for life.
