An Igbo leader and President of Igbo Buru Otu, Chief Chika C. Nwokedi has formally declared to join the Imo State Governorship race for the 2019 election.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Nwokedi popularly known as Presido made the declaration on Thursday at his palatial  office in Lagos.

The declaration witnessed the presence of hundreds of Igbo sons and daughters who abandoned their businesses and came to witness the event. They gathered in groups, singing and praising God for him to have accepted to contest for the position in order to liberate his people.

Chief Nwokedi with the chieftaincy title Okpoko of Obodoukwu in Ideato area of Imo State, said that the declaration for the race was divine which he described as a call from God and he had answered. He said it was time for the youths in the society to take over the leadership because those who had led us in the past betrayed the trust reposed on them.

He explained that initially he was not interested in the race until God called him as in the case of David to run for the position of Governor to liberate his people. He noted that there were suffering, starvation, many jobless youths, roads were not constructed and repaired which led to so much suffering in Imo State.

However, Nwokedi did not disclose the political platform which he will use to achieve his aim at the event. But P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the political platform might be one of those trending coalition political parties being championed by the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasonjo.

He said “I cannot sit down watching my people suffering daily because of bad governance without any remedy and that was why when i had the divine call I obeyed”.

Chief Nwokedi was the former President of the Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos before he moved for international businesses and set up group of companies. He denied being sponsored by any political godfather and said that his team will soon relocate to Imo State where he had already set up offices for the electioneering campaigns if he was eventually nominated by his party.

The campaign slogan is ‘Hope’ and he described it as the mission statement on what he will bring to the people if nominated by his party and eventually elected as Governor, to restore their confidence. He advised Imo people not to despair and have patience because the time of restoration has come to rescue the people from bad governance.

P.M.EXPRESS also asked to know how he will contend with Governor Rochas Okorocha and his supporters as the incumbent governor. He replied that he was not competing with the Governor because his own mandate was divine and at the appointed time the people will choose and elect him.
