Ohanaeze Ndigbo chieftain, Chief Solomon Aguene, has called on the people of Imo State to rally support for Senator Martin Agbaso in his bid for the governorship in the 2027 general elections.

Chief Aguene, who is the President Emeritus of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter, made the call during a meeting with stakeholders in Lagos. He said the time has come for Imo to experience purposeful leadership.

According to him, Senator Agbaso has consistently demonstrated capacity, integrity and love for Ndigbo over the years. He described the former lawmaker as a leader who understands modern governance and the needs of the people.

The Ohanaeze chieftain said Senator Agbaso served as Grand Patron of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos State and used the position to unite Ndigbo and support community development. He noted that such experience would be useful in governing Imo State.

Chief Aguene praised Senator Agbaso’s exposure and education, saying he studied abroad and has the vision to apply modern strategies to develop the state. He added that the senator has the temperament and competence to transform all sectors.

He recalled the leadership of the late Chief Sam Onunaka Mbakwe, who is widely remembered for his achievements in old Imo State. Chief Aguene said Imo needs a leader in the mould of Mbakwe, and that Senator Agbaso fits that description.

“After the era of late Sam Mbakwe, Imo people have been yearning for a leader who will replicate that kind of performance. I believe Senator Martin Agbaso has what it takes to do it,” Chief Aguene stated.

The Ohanaeze chieftain also noted his personal connection to the old Imo State. He said he comes from the area and has followed the performance of successive administrations closely. He expressed confidence that Senator Agbaso would do better.

Chief Aguene urged Imo people to put aside party differences and personal sentiments in the interest of the state. He said competence and track record should be the basis for choosing the next governor.

He also advised the Imo people to pray fervently and communities to consult their Oracles so that Senator Martin Agbaso will not change his mind not to contest for the Governorship election in 2027.

The Ohanaeze leader praised Senator Agbaso for his consistency in supporting Igbo causes and for his commitment to unity among Ndigbo both at home and in the diaspora. He said such a leader deserves the mandate of the people.

Chief Aguene concluded by appealing to all stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth and women groups in Imo State to support Senator Martin Agbaso. He said with collective support, Imo can achieve real progress and development under his leadership.
