Nigerian first individual Olympic Gold medallist, Chioma Ajunwa- Opara, has been named among those listed for Merit Award at the forthcoming South-East SPORTS/HUMANITARIAN Merit Award of Excellence.
The award ceremony will hold on December 2 and 3, 2022, at the Gymnasium hall of the Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.
According to the organisers, the ceremony will be chaired by Senator Osita Izunaso.
The programme is being packaged by the South-East Para Sports Forum.
With the Executive governor of Enugu sate, His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as Special guest, event coordinator, Mr. Silver Chinedu Ezeikpe, the South-East region representative on the executive board of the Paralympic Committee Nigeria (PCN), said, apart from Chioma Ajunwa, all the South-East governors are also going to be given awards.
He said the Merit Award is not for all comers but based on humanitarian and philanthropic services of those concerned for immensely contributing to the development of Para- Sports especially in the South-East region of Nigeria.
He noted that such recognition would be extended to many Nigerians in the future in order to motivate them to do more for humanity and as well serve as a wake-up call for other well meaning Nigerians who are yet to see the need to help the needy in our society.
