A Civil Society Organization, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), has reportedly fingered the Divisional Police Officer, Ado-Odo Otta, in shady land deals in Ogun State in collaboration with serial land grabbers led by one notorious Tobi Opaleye.

The DPO was alleged to have connived with the land grabbers to illegally arrest one Miss Oluwatoyin Idowu, who is owner of the said 12 acres of land at Abegunjo-Alapoti Village, Ado-Odo Otta, Ogun State. He was said to have demanded the young woman to bring the original documents of the said land to Ado-Odo Police Station on Thursday 6th June, 2019, with the aim of using tricks to collect the landed properties documents from her (Oluwatoyin) after she had purportedly shown the photocopies to the Divisional Police Officer.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Miss Oluwatoyin Idowu had earlier alleged that the leader of the land grabbers, Opaleye, was unlawfully encroaching into the landed properties belonging to her, which made them to reportedly threaten her life as a result.

The names of the other members of the gang were given as: Alao Oshoja, Taofiq Opaleye, Kayode Daniel, Oje Ashade and Taye Oshoja.

According to the source who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS, the landed properties were bequeathed to Oluwatoyin Idowu after the demise of his father, Pa Idowu Akanbi Awayo, but Opaleye and his cotravelers in connivance with DPO of Ado-Odo Police Division had allegedly illegally sold the a part of the said land to one Nursery/Primary School Proprietor, Nafiudeen Olanrewaju, popularly called “Sheu”. It was alleged that the school proprietor had engaged in child labour by using the pupils of the private school as bricklayers in the construction of the school buildings during the school hours.

But speaking on the matter, CHRSJ’s Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, disclosed that the group will soon write to inform the Police authorities at the Force Headquarters, Abuja and  Zone 2 Headquarters in Lagos State, for disciplinary actions against the alleged erring DPO in order to serve as deterrent to Police Officers who might want to try such in the future.

Comrade Sulaiman said that it was a show of shame for a senior police officer like the DPO at Ado-Odo Otta to connive with notorious land grabbers and unlawfully take over landed properties of an innocent and law abiding citizen of Nigeria.

CHRSJ boss therefore used the medium to call on the Police authorities to commence investigation on the subject matter so as to save the Force from national embarrassment and avoidable legal tussle.

Meanwhile, Oluwatoyin Idowu, through her lawyer, Barrister Ibilola Subair, had reported the matter to the Area Commander of Sango Otta for urgent intervention in order to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the area.

The Sango Otta Area Commander through its “B’ Department of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) under Team Leader, Supol Fagbemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and IPO, one Sergeant Folashade, swung into action by inviting the land grabbers for investigation but the Ado-Odo Otta Divisional Police Officer has reportedly  hindered the good work of the Area Commander’s office on the subject matter.

Comrade Sulaiman, who doubles as Convener, Save Lagos Group (SLG), later called on the authorities in charge of the educational sector in Ogun State to investigate the proprietor of Sawil-Darul Salam Nursery and Primary School, Abegunjo-Alapoti Village in Ado-Odo Otta Local Government Area of the state, Alfa Nafiu Olanrewaju, by inviting the Police to arrest him, as he also alleged that the proprietor of the school is a ritualist. Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, also known as ‘Revolutionary Alfa’, gave the phone numbers of all involved in the case and said he can be reached for confirmation and clarification where necessary.
