Citizens Watch Africa Hails Aminu Maida’s Reform Initiatives At NCC

Citizens Watch Africa (CWA) has commended Aminu Maida for his efforts to develop the telecommunications sector since his assumption of office as Executive Vice Chairman (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The CWA said Maida had implemented laudable reforms that had increased stakeholder confidence in the sector and led to increased investment in strong communications infrastructure.

Convener of the Group, Pastor Dave Ogbole said the decision was taken after a comprehensive review of the NCC’s activities over the last six months.

Ogbole said new measures have been taken by the Maida-led NCC administration to promote transparency and accountability.

“This has led to improvements in the governance of the Commission. The message of this new tool is the attitude of NCC management to create a level playing field for all players in the industry.”

“Citizens Watch Africa says that the new initiative at NCC has repositioned the Commission in terms of productivity. This is reflected in various stakeholder initiatives that collect and evaluate feedback to improve the sector.

“We use this medium to recognize the leadership of the NCC. He is extremely determined and determined to fulfil his important responsibilities. The new move in the NCC has led to an increase in the number of voice and internet subscriptions, including a decrease in teledensity.

“It is instructive to state that the nation’s teledensity dropped from 115.63% to 102.30% in September. Broadband penetration dropped from 45.47% to 40.85% in the same month. The active voice subscription statistics witnessed a marginal growth from 220,715,961 to 221,769,883 as of September 2023. In addition, Internet subscriptions also enjoyed a marginal increase, from 159,034,717 in August 2023 to 160,171,125 in September 2023.
