The Dwellers of Coastal and Waterways Communities of Africa, (DCWCA), has risen strongly to condemn the Federal Government’s indifference towards the welfare of victims, some of whom lost their lives and properties worth millions of naira, during the October 15 flood disaster in the Niger Delta areas of Nigeria.

The President of DCWCA, Honourable Abigail Oladapo-Ayo expressed utter disappointment with FG’s indifference to the flood disaster which claimed sizable number of lives and properties worth millions of naira and leaving the lucky ones homeless till further notice.

“It’s really disturbing, disheartening, and saddening that the FG has absolutely done nothing since October 15 when the natural disaster happened. They are supposed to have put in their best officially by doing anything that would salvage the affected persons situation and lives by specifically setting up the Emergency Management agency to evacuate the unfortunate victims of the disaster and rehabilitate them until the situation subsides completely,” she maintained.

Hon Oladapo-Ayo insisted that the agency should be saddled immediately with the task of formulating beneficial policies mainly for activities relating to disaster management in the affected Niger Delta areas, co-ordinating the planning and execution of the programmes meaningful to victims with a view to prevent future disasters.

She noted that all these efforts needed to make the expected impact, the agency should coordinate and promote research activities, relating to the effective management of the situation.
