Colombia 2024: Falconets Coach Calls Up Asisat Oshoala Academy Star Seimeyeha To Camp

 

The Asisat Oshoala Academy has continued to have its imprint stamped on the Nigerian female football arena with team players finding their way into the national teams.

The latest in the list is gangling striker Akekoromowei Seimeyeha Janet, who got a call-up into the national team ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia from 29 August – 22 September 2024.

Head Coach, Chris Musa Danjuma, found the player worthy as he has called up Asisat Oshoala Academy star striker Seimeyeha, the leading goal scorer for the team during the qualifying series of the U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024 for the World Cup camping.

In the letter of invitation addressed to the Lagos State Football Association, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says “We present the warm compliments of the President, Executive Board Members, Management and Staff of the Nigeria Football Federation to you.

“Further to inform you that the Nigeria U-20 Women National Team are resuming camp in preparation for the FIFA U 20 Women World Cup holding between August 31st to September 22nd, 2024, in Colombia.

“The following Player AKEKOROMOWEI SEIMEYEHA JANET from your Club Asisat Academy, Nigeria is to report to camp on Sunday 7th July 2024 at SEROB HOTEL, WUYE Abuja.

“The player is to come along with their training kits, International E-passport, Parents’ Consent Letter for those who are underage permitting them to travel for the World Cup and Certificate of Birth (issued by National Population Commission in their respective States).

“While we wait for the arrival of the player on 7th July 2024, please accept the expression of our best sporting regards.”

The coach invited 32 Falconets players to camp in Abuja for the first phase of preparations for the global tournament in Colombia.

Team captain Oluchi Ohaegbulem is top of the list, with first-choice goalkeeper Faith Omilana, defenders Shukurat Oladipo and Comfort Folorunsho also making the cut.

Seimeyeha who hails from Ese-Odo in Ondo State, has the potential to become one of the best strikers Nigeria has ever produced.

The teenager has a keen eye for goals as she has dutifully proved during Nigeria’s campaign in the World Cup qualifiers that eventually gave the Falconets the ticket to play at the Mundia coming up in Colombia.

“I want to play at a higher level, at a better place, to be the best version of myself,” she told Soccernet during a recent interview.

The coming U-20 Women’s World Cup will afford her the biggest opportunity to showcase her talent on the world stage in Colombia.

Nigeria will contend with three-time winners Germany, Asian powerhouse Korea Republic and South American representatives Venezuela in group D of the competition scheduled in Columbia from Aug. 31 to Sept. 22.

All the invited players for the World Cup are expected at Serob Legacy Hotel, Wuye, Abuja on July 7.
