‘Company Director’ Faces Trial For Threatening Boss

A self-acclaimed company director, Julius Ayemere, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on alleged threat to life offences.

The 41 years old man, was on Tuesday, arraigned before Chief Magistrate O. O. Oshin, by men of Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCIID), Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, on charges bordering conspiracy, threat to life and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

The police in charge numbered A/59a/18, alleged that the defendant and others now at large, sometimes this year, at Onanepe Street, Addo road, Ajah, Lagos, conspired among themselves, and violently threatened the life of their boss, Fonseca Avworo.

The defendant alongside others said to be at large, on the said day, were also alleged to have caused breach of public peace, by continuous threatening the life of Avworo, on daily basis.
The prosecutor, Barrister Morufu Animashaun, told the court that the offences against the defendant are contrary to and punishable under sections 411, 56(8) and 164(1) (h) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following his plea of innocence, his lawyer, Yakubu Oladimeji, pleaded with the court, to admit his client bail in the most liberal terms.
Oladimeji assured the court that his client have credible sureties who can stand for him, and will always attend his trial till the end of the case.
Responding, the prosecutor, Barrister Animashaun, urged the court to refuse the defendant’s bail application, saying that granting him bail will jeopardize police efforts in getting others suspects apprehended.
After listened to the submissions of both parties, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Oshin, admitted bail to the defendant in the sum of N250, 000, with two sureties in the same sum.
The magistrate also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, and that each of the sureties must show to court evidence of three years tax paid to the Lagos State government, with means of livelihood.
The magistrate also ordered that the verification must be done by the prosecutor. While adjourned the matter till October 3, for commencement of trial.
Count one of the charge reads: “That you Julius Ayemere ‘m‘ and others at large sometimes in 2018 at Onanepe Street, off Ado Road Ajah-Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit an offence to wit: threatening Violence and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 411 of the Criminal Law at Lagos State, 2015.
And count three reads: “That you Julius Ayemere ’m’ and others at large sometimes in 2018 at Ononepe Street, off Ado Rood Ajah-Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, conducted yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening the life of one Fonseca Avworo ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 168 (1) (h) at the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
