The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has distributed food palliatives to 1,000 residents as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.

The intervention, aimed at supporting vulnerable residents and alleviating the economic hardship faced by members of the community, featured the distribution of 10kg bags of rice, 5kg of beans and another 5kg food item to beneficiaries.

Among those who benefited were persons living with disabilities, Muslim and Christian communities, youth groups and other residents drawn from across Ikeja Local Government.

Speaking at the programme, Comrade Dauda said the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance and the delivery of the dividends of democracy to residents.

He said the first anniversary was an opportunity not only to celebrate the achievements of the administration but also to render an account of its stewardship and reaffirm its commitment to the IKEJA Agenda of “Making Governance Work for All.”

According to him, the administration has remained focused on its strategic pillars of infrastructural development and urban renewal, knowledge-based economic empowerment, environmental governance and healthcare initiatives, social services, and accountability and good governance.

“We have recorded remarkable impact in road rehabilitation, sanitation, youth empowerment, healthcare delivery, education, market modernisation, economic empowerment and citizen engagement,” Comrade Dauda said.

He noted that the administration had also carried out several interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable residents, adding that the food distribution was another demonstration of its commitment to social welfare.

He also appealed to residents, corporate organisations and community groups to support the administration in its efforts to build a cleaner, safer and more prosperous Ikeja.

The Council Chairman expressed appreciation to residents and stakeholders for their support during the administration’s first year, saying the journey toward building the Ikeja of their collective dream would continue with greater commitment.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Council Manager of Ikeja Local Government, Mrs. Odubeko Julianah Taiwo, commended AKOD for his interventions and achievements during his first year in office, describing the anniversary activities as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to the people.

She noted that the programme also featured the recognition of retired council workers in appreciation of their meritorious service to the local government.
