The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD) on Wednesday has led members of the council executive on a sensitisation tour of Computer Village and its environs, urging traders and business owners to promptly pay their statutory taxes and levies or face enforcement in the coming weeks.
The Chairman, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Adeniyi Adeyi, said the exercise was part of the council’s renewed efforts to improve internally generated revenue and ensure that residents and businesses fulfil their civic responsibilities.
Comrade Dauda expressed concern that some traders and business owners within and around Computer Village were yet to pay their taxes and levies for the year, describing the situation as unfortunate.
According to him, the council has continued to make progress across key sectors, including education, environmental sanitation, infrastructure and youth inclusion, noting that adequate revenue remains essential to sustain development and improve service delivery.
“This is September, and many people are yet to pay their taxes. We have come to remind our traders and business owners to pay promptly through the proper channels provided by the council,” Comrade Dauda said.
He stressed that his administration believes strongly in communication, advocacy and engagement but warned that the council would not hesitate to commence comprehensive enforcement against persistent defaulters.
“We believe in communication and persuasion, but where necessary, we will wield the big stick. Those who fail to cooperate with the council after this sensitisation may face total enforcement,” he added.
The Council Chairman appealed to all traders and business owners to support the development of Ikeja by fulfilling their tax obligations promptly.
Speaking during the tour, the Chairman of the Plaza Managers in Computer Village, Mr. Chuks, who joined the council officials on the sensitisation exercise, pledged the cooperation and support of business owners.
The revenue sensitisation exercise was held on Wednesday across Computer Village and its environs.
