Comrade Dauda’s Intentional Revenue Drive Yields Results On Third Day

 

The intentional revenue mobilisation and compliance drive of Ikeja Local Government recorded further progress on Thursday as the Executive Chairman, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), continued his direct engagement with business owners and operators in Computer Village.

 

The exercise, which began on Adepele Street, has been supported by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, other Executive members, management staff and revenue officers of the Council.

A key feature of the exercise is the Chairman’s personal involvement in monitoring compliance as the revenue team moves from one street to another. Businesses are engaged individually, with payment statuses and official receipts verified to determine outstanding obligations.

The approach has also provided business owners with an opportunity to raise concerns directly with the Chairman, who has continued to clarify issues and educate operators on relevant Local Government laws and their statutory obligations.

The exercise revealed that some businesses were still relying on revenue bills from previous years. Comrade Dauda explained that old bills should not be treated as current assessments, urging businesses to obtain the appropriate current assessment, make required payments and retain official receipts for verification.

 

The Council Chairman commended businesses that have cooperated with the exercise, stressing that improved revenue compliance is essential to strengthening the Council’s capacity to provide better infrastructure, environmental services, healthcare interventions and other developmental projects.

 

After concluding the exercise on Adepele Street, Comrade Dauda and the revenue team moved to Otigba Street to continue the mobilisation and compliance exercise.

 

The ongoing drive underscores the administration’s commitment to a transparent, structured and development-oriented revenue system, while urging all businesses in Ikeja to meet their statutory obligations.
