A Niger Delta Youth activist, Comrade Alex Alabrima, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to set up a committee that will conduct a forensic audit on the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme.
Comrade Alabrima said, “As we speak, the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme has been turned to another cash cow were Niger Delta leaders make millions of Naira to their private pocket with very little things on ground to show for it. It is pertinent to know that the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme that was setup since 2009 till date is not meeting up to obligations”.
“So many of our youths have been trained without empowerment. So many leaders of the group are still in the act of collecting the stipends meant for the beneficiaries for themselves, leaving most of the boys to suffer. Most of the boys are languishing in the prison because they were frustrated by their leaders and had to go back to carry arms.”
“The former President, Muhammadu Buhari, even tried when he ordered that their payments should be made through their bank accounts. Even that process was frustrated by the leaders. As we speak, most of the beneficiaries are still paid manually; instead of the 65 Thousand Naira, most of them are paid 40 Thousand Naira while some receive paltry 25 Thousand Naira. Some of the leaders are the ones frustrating the efforts of the Federal Government.”
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR should please look into the Amnesty Programme and see how he can help the boys” Comrade Alabrima concluded.
