CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
An Ogun State High Court has sacked 10 kingmakers illegally appointed by the Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state.
The order for the sack was made by Justice N.I Agbelu of the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ota division.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that since the late Oba Samuel Banuso passed on two years ago, the town had not known peace.
Several candidates have indicated interest on the throne which had caused crisis in the community.
The latest crisis which led to the sack of the kingmakers appointed by the state government was orchestrated by some of the contenders who went to court to challenge the appointment. They won the case.
In the motion filed by the aggrieved parties by their counsel, Barrister Olufemi Ajiboso, the claimants averred that base on the chieftaincy declaration of Igbesa Town, four kingmakers are to nominate candidates.
The kingmakers are Asalu, Petu, Osunba and Elemo, but out of the four only Osunba is still alive.
The motion further stated that the Commissioner instead of appointing three kingmakers to replace the late ones, he went ahead to appoint 10 others including non indigenes against the lay down rule.
The claimants stated that one of candidates, Prince Haruna Odusanya compiled a list and appointed himself the King-elect and sent the names to the Commissioner for approval.
Following the appointment, the claimants went to court and obtained a restraining order which was granted by the court.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the development has made the tussle for the throne to be more complex and complicated, as the litigation now added another twist to the crisis.
