The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has announced a joint mass sensitisation campaign with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to discourage bus operators from loading and dropping passengers on the Ikeja-Along/Computer Village connecting bridge.
The campaign will also educate pedestrians on the dangers of trekking on the bridge and the need to use the designated pedestrian bridge.
Comrade Dauda made this known when chairmen of NURTW park garages in parts of Ikeja, under the leadership of the union in Lagos, Comrade Mustafa Adekunle Sego, visited him in his office and presented thousands of fliers for distribution across Ikeja.
The fliers carry clear safety messages, including: “STOP LOADING & DROPPING PASSENGERS ON THE BRIDGE!” and “DO NOT TREK ON THE BRIDGE! Your life is precious. Use the pedestrian bridge.”
Comrade Dauda described the campaign as apt, timely and imperative, stressing that his administration remains committed to saving lives, improving traffic flow and promoting responsible use of public infrastructure.
He said members of the council’s executive would join the NURTW leadership in the new week for the sensitisation exercise across strategic locations in Ikeja.
The Chairman warned that offenders would be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law, urging transport operators and pedestrians to cooperate with the initiative.
Comrade Dauda was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore, the Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon Ayo Adenuga and other council officials.
