Ibrahim Shehu, 20, and Waheed Habeeb, 19, were arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy, stealing and receiving of electrical cables valued at N43,933,100.00 at Alaba International Market in Ojo area of the State.
The defendants appeared before the Ojo court on a three-count charge filed by the Commissioner of Police.
According to the charge sheet marked 11406/2020, the alleged offences were said to have occurred in July 2025 at Alaba International Market, Ojo, within the Lagos Magisterial District.
The prosecution alleged in count one that the defendants and others now at large conspired among themselves to commit felony, specifically conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen items.
The alleged act was said to be punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
In count two, Ibrahim Shehu and others still at large were alleged to have stolen several rolls of Divine brand cables belonging to C-Divine Answer International Company Limited.
The charge sheet listed the items to include 275.6 meters of 2C Divine Copper Solar Cable priced at N3,000 per meter.
It also listed 1,313.7 meters of 10mm x 2C Divine Solar Cable at N6,500 per meter, and 1,270.4 meters of 25mm x 4C Divine Armored Cable at N25,000 per meter.
Other items listed are 573.5 meters of 4mm x 3C Divine TRS Cable at N3,500 per meter, and 200 meters of 6mm x 2C Divine Copper Cable at N4,000 per meter.
The total value of the alleged stolen cables was put at N43,933,100.00. The prosecution said the offence contravened Section 287(5)(e)(f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
In count three, Waheed Habeeb and others still at large were alleged to have received the same set of cables from Ibrahim Shehu, knowing them to be stolen property of C-Divine Answer International Company Limited. The prosecution stated that the alleged act is punishable under Section 328(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The Investigating Police Officer listed on the charge sheet was Inspector David Futughe of the Zonal Quick Intervention Squad, Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos. However, the prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions. Legal experts say the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by the Court of competent jurisdiction.
