Prince Wale Oladunjoye, former Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to ex-Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Raji Fashola, is one of few spirited Nigerians who has been reaching out to the poor and the vulnerable in Lagos State in order to cushion the effect of the lockdown declared by President Muhammadu  Buhari to contain the spread of novel Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

In the last few days,  Prince Oladunjoye has been providing food palliatives to the people at some locations in the Lagos metropolis. This, according to him, is his own little way of supporting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s stimulus package to Lagosians and more importantly his own way of identifying with the less privileged during this tough time.

“It is rather so unfortunate that we found ourselves in a situation that we least expected,” he told P.M. EXPRESS on Monday while doing house to house distribution knocking on doors to give food to eat to the people in Yaba area of Lagos State.

“Nobody saw this pandemic coming. It is very important that we should do all what we can to rally round the poor and the vulnerable in our society, because they are the worst affected in this lockddown” said Oladunjoye, who is the Tournament Director of the annual Lagos Open Tennis Championship, an International Tennis Federation (ITF) sanctioned Tour holding in Lagos since Year 2000.

The seasoned sports administrator noted that the distribution of foods to the people is being done taking into consideration the social distancing rule as spelt out by the Lagos State government.

“What we are doing is that we ensured that the people maintained considerable space in between each other when we gave out the food palliative. We did this at Iwaya area of Yaba on Sunday and we are here today (Monday) around Yaba College of Technology. I am happy to say that the intended recipients received the little we could give out with joy and happiness,” he said.

Oladunjoye gave kudos to Governor Sanwo-Olu for coordinating effectively the management and containment of the novel Coronovirus pandemic since the index case of COVID-19 was recorded in Lagos on 29 February, adding that the front line work force, that is the health workers, have been doing a great job to ensure that Lagos and its people are safe.

To the people, Oladunjoye enjoined Lagosians to always abide by the instructions; they should wash their hands regularly, maintain social and physical distancing, wearing of face masks whenever they are outdoor and more importantly, they should stay at home during this lock down.
