The Chief Judge of Cross River State, Hon Justice Akon Ikpeme, philanthropists Chris Agara and High Chief Higgins Peters were among various recipients of the Nigerian Bar Association award, on Saturday.
The awards for various categories such as excellence, integrity in business, philanthropy, etc. were bestowed on the recipients at Transcorp Hotel, Calabar.
While giving award to Justice Ikpeme, the Calabar branch Chairman of NBA, Dr. Paul Ebiala alluded to the doggedness of the Chief Judge until she was appointed a substantive CJ.
Speaking, newly elevated Justice of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the occasion, Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, represented by Justice Abua Elias, said no nation was spared of insecurity, adding “We are in a very difficult situation as a nation,” in terms of insecurity, corruption and among others, and concluded that “justice is the bedrock of any democracy.”
