The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has announced Saturday,17 June, 2017 as date for the local government election in the state.
The announcement was made in Calabar Thursday by the Chairman of the Commission ,Dr. Mike Ushie, while presenting the guidelines for the exercise.
He told political party leaders, journalists and other stakeholders that CROSIEC was not a party to a court matter instituted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the state governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and as such it was at liberty to hold the election.
He advised political parties and their candidates to adhere strictly to the electoral guidelines during the exercise.
In the run up to the election, a series of meetings have been scheduled between CROSIEC and various stakeholders at the commission’s headquarters in Calabar and in the 18 local government areas of the state, as well as seminars for candidates and training of ad hoc staff.
