Cyriacus Izuekwe, Obisia Nwankpa, Others Honoured On Igbo Day

Dignitaries from all walks of life thronged the mini-stadium at Bishop Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, Mushin area of Lagos on Saturday 7th December, 2019, as the Igbo community in Lagos held the 2019 edition of the Igbo Cultural Festival.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the event, which was the 8th edition, was organised by the Igbo Community in Mushin, Lagos, led by his HRH, Eze Dr. John C. Nwosu, Ezendigbo in Mushin land.

At the well attended event, world boxing legend and title holder, Obisia Nwankpa, Cyriacus Izuekwe, Associate Editor of P.M.EXPRESS Newspaper and other notable Igbo sons and daughters were honoured with chieftaincy titles for their respective roles in the society and being good Igbo ambassadors.


Speaking at the event, the Chief Host, Eze John C. Nwosu, explained that the event was created to show the world that the Igbo stock have rich cultural heritage and also to sustain and maintain the culture to even the Igbo in Diaspora, who cannot travel home during the showcasing of the culture in Igbo land.


Nwosu explained that prominent Igbo and non Igbo, who have contributed in one way or the other to the society, were honoured at the event in order to encourage them and others to do more to the benefit of humanity.

As the only event that brings Igbo sons and daughters together in Lagos, it attracted traditional rulers and dignitaries from various communities in Igbo land. There were beautiful displays of cultural dances and performances by different masquerades.

Highpoints of the cultural festival were the traditional breaking of kola nut, itu nzu rites and the conferring of chieftaincy titles on deserving awardees by Eze John C. Nwosu and other traditional rulers present.

Responding on behalf of those honoured, Chief Cyriacus Izuekwe (Ogene Ndigbo), told P.M.EXPRESS correspondent that Eze Nwosu deserved commendation for his efforts in trying to preserve the Igbo cultural heritage. He said the honour can only spur them to do more and remain good ambassadors in their different fields of endeavour.
