Day 2 Of Ikeja LG Y2026 Fiscal Year Budget Retreat

Day Two of the Y2026 Fiscal Year Budget Retreat of Ikeja Local Government featured robust deliberations and strategic engagements aimed at deepening people-centered budgeting and strengthening fiscal responsibility across all departments and units of the Council.

The resource person for the day, Mr. Ibrahim Bajomo, delivered an in-depth presentation on the Budget Process and its Importance, where he explained the stages of budget formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. He emphasized that budgetary allocations must be intentionally designed to deliver tangible benefits to the populace, stressing that public funds should translate into impactful projects, improved service delivery, and sustainable grassroots development.

In her contribution, the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko, commended the quality of discussions at the retreat and reiterated the need for all departments to align their proposals with the developmental priorities of the administration. She stressed that budgeting should go beyond figures, noting that every allocation must reflect accountability, value for money, and measurable outcomes that directly improve the lives of Ikeja residents.

Speaking at the session, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), charged heads of departments to be deliberate, realistic, and people-focused in their budget submissions. He emphasized that the Y2026 budget must be a practical working document anchored on the I.K.E.J.A Agenda, ensuring continuity of ongoing projects while initiating new interventions that address the pressing needs of the people. According to the Chairman, the retreat is designed to ensure transparency, stakeholder inclusion, and effective utilization of public resources.

The retreat was coordinated by the Department of Planning, Budget, Research and Statistics, headed by Dr. Yemisi Anita Rasak, whose team facilitated seamless sessions and technical guidance throughout the day.

Day Two ended with an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants shared insights and sought clarifications, further reinforcing the Council’s collective commitment to delivering a credible, implementable, and people-oriented Y2026 budget for sustainable development in Ikeja Local Government. Certificates of attendance were also presented to all attendees by the Executive Chairman.
