Dele Adedugbe Estate Residents Association of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has honoured its senior citizens at a special community celebration held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the growth, unity and wellbeing of the estate.

The well-attended event brought together senior residents in an atmosphere of warmth, music, interaction, food and appreciation, with the elders expressing delight at being remembered and celebrated by their community.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Estate, Pastor Joseph Ayolola, delivered the opening address, welcoming the senior citizens and emphasising the importance of recognising and appreciating older members of the community.

According to Pastor Ayilola , the event was conceived as more than a social gathering. It was intended to demonstrate the estate’s appreciation for its senior residents and to strengthen the bond between generations within the community.

The programme included prayers, recognition of senior citizens, music, interactive talks, entertainment, food, demistribution of souvenirs and a special social session that allowed the elders to relax, interact and share memorable moments.

Speaking with our reporter after the event, the Estate’s Secretary General, Olisemeka Obi, who coordinated the programme and its various activities said that the idea was conceived in line with the United Nation”s International Day for the Elderlies which is observed annually on every October 1st. ‘We have to honour our elders because they are the custodians of our history, and their wisdom guides us today”, he added.

The celebration was sponsored collectively by the estate, with financial contributions from a number of individual residents who supported the initiative and helped make the occasion possible.

Many of the senior citizens, spoke at the event to expressed appreciation to the Estate Management and residents for the recognition.
They described the gesture as a source of joy, noting that growing older becomes even more meaningful when people are surrounded by neighbours who demonstrate kindness, respect and care.

Alhaja Oyewole on particular thanked the estate for making the occasion special and prayed that all residents would live to grow old in good health and peace”. Mr Martins Obilana also noted that the elders are encourage by the gesture. ‘This goes a long way to show that everyone is recognised in our community”, he added.

The event also reflected the estate’s broader objective of building a community where residents of different ages can interact, connect and participate in activities that promote togetherness.

As the estate looks ahead, attention will now turn to its next major community gathering — the DARA Fiesta, scheduled for December 26, 2026.
The fiesta is expected to provide an opportunity for the youths and the young at heart in the estate to come together for another day of entertainment, social interaction and community bonding.

The successful Senior Citizens’ Day has therefore, added another milestone to Dele Adedugbe Estate’s efforts to foster a strong sense of community and the spirit of being “Happy Neighbours”.
