The Niger Delta Youth Parliament, the apex youth consultative platform of the Niger Delta, has given reasons it unanimously endorsed the aspiration of Hon. Benjamin Kalu, member representing Bende Federal Constituency, to be Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.

The endorsement came, following a motion by Honourable Esther Udoh of the Uyo Constituency.

Speaking with members of the press after its 4th EXTRA ORDINARY PLENARY SESSION/ YOUTH ENGAGEMENT held at the Federal Secretariat, Honourable  Chibuzor Obialor Wachukwu stayed in unequivocal terms that the choice of Kalu was predicated on his track record and the fact that of all the aspirants gunning for.the position of Deputy Speaker, only Kalu had the interest of the Nigwr Delta Region at heart.

He said: “Many persons may wonder why of the spectrum of candidates or aspirants gunning for the position of Deputy Speaker, the Niger Delta Youth Parliament chose to endorse Honourable Benjamin Kalu as our choice for the position of Deputy Speaker. Our choice for Kalu is dependent on a number of factors, such as his numerous contributions in the House via his numerous bills and motions which have sought to improve the quality of life of the average Nigerian”.

“Again, let us look at the quality of his Constituency projects, Kalu’s projects compared to that of others rank high in their meeting the  three dimensions of human development.”
“Lastly, it is obvious that Kalu is the only representative gunning for that position with the interest of the Niger Delta Region, we are thus rooting for him to help contribute more to the development of the region.”

Wachukwu also announced that the NDYP had resolved to begin a lobby campaign on behalf of Kalu in the region.
