Fans at Ikorodu Town Hall, Ita Elewa, Ikorodu on Monday
Notwithstanding the ouster of Nigeria’s Super Eagles from the ongoing greatest sporting fiesta, the FIFA World Cup in Russia, turnout at all the Lagos Viewing Centres continued to witness large numbers of football lovers.
The viewing centres were established by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission and support of International Breweries, Nigeria, makers of Trophy Lager Beer, Hero and Budweiser.
Spectators continued to troop out to watch the remaining matches at various viewing centres located at Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Abesan Playground, Alimosho, Naval Barracks Ajegunle, Bishop Aggrey Youth Center, Mushin, Epe Recreation Center, Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu and Badagry Grammar School, Badagry.
Campos Mini Stadium on Lagos Island always full with crowd
At the Campos Mini Stadium Viewing Center in Lagos Island, Tunde Akinbiyi said: “Football lovers would continued to troop out to watch the remaining World Cup matches at the viewing centre because the atmosphere here is good and the security is readily available and at the same time there is fun and musical interlude.”
Also at Epe Recreation Centre, the Coordinator from the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Ishola Safari disclosed that since after the ouster of the Super Eagles, the turnout of spectators remain the same because people feel comfortable here.
The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh while watching the game between Brazil versus Mexico said he is not surprise at the turnout of spectators at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
“The security put in place by the Lagos State Government and the atmosphere here is very conducive for people to enjoy watching the games, ” he said.
