The police in Lagos have arrested suspected armed robbers who hijacked truck load of goods worth millions of Naira and diverted it to sell before they were apprehended.
The suspects, Lance Corporals, Mr. Moses Johnson, 25, Akintola Abiodun, 25 and fake soldier Osegbu Chidi, 30, Monday Ayele, 42 and Asowanne Emeka, 30, reportedly hijacked a sterling truck load of groundnut oil worth millions of naira at gun point and diverted both the truck and goods to an unknown destination before they ran out of luck.
They were arrested by the police and both the truck and the goods were recovered as exhibits.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, who paraded them at the State Command, Lagos.
The police boss explained that on Sunday 2nd September, 2018, the suspects intercepted and diverted the truck with registration number, LSR 266 XW loaded with groundnut oil worth N13m. He said that the five man highway robbers at Epe Expressway, Lagos, stopped the Kano State bound truck close to Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, pushed the driver and conductor out of the truck and drove off.
However, while the driver and the conductor were trekking toward the Epe-Lagos expressway, they met a police officer on patrol and narrated their ordeal. The officer contacted the police station on the route the robbers followed and they intercepted the truck. The suspects, Monday Ayele and Asowanne Emeka, were arrested and detained at the police station.
CP Edgal said that during interrogation, they mentioned the other three members of the gang; two of them were dismissed soldiers and another fake soldier. He said that the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigations.
The suspects had confessed admitting that they actually hijacked the truck but did not know that they will be arrested.
