The Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Leaders and Union of Niger Delta Contractors have asked the Presidency to ignore calls by some interest groups calling for the suspension of Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd), the interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
The youth leaders and contractors made the call after passing
a vote of confidence on the leadership of Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd) for meeting up with the monthly payment of stipends for the delegates and other stakeholders.
In a statement signed by Most Snr. Comrade Emeni Ibe, the President General Orashi National Congress and National President Southern Youths Foundation of Nigeria, the youth leaders and contractors said, “We in the Coalition of the Niger Delta Youth Leaders and Union of Niger Delta Contractors, resolve to pass a vote of confidence and urge the Presidency to disregard calls from some few Niger Delta interest based groups for the suspension of Major General Ndiomu (Rtd)”.
“We insist that it is unreasonable and a recipe for greater conflict, and the moves are obviously mischievous concoction of lies designed to sow seeds of distrust and discord against the Amnesty Programme. Amongst the allegations thrown up in the petition dated 7th February, 2023, were cases of alleged forgery of late professor Charles Quaker Dokubo’s signature to back date contract award letter for purported contractors.”
The leadership of over 40 groups therefore, called on the Presidential Amnesty boss, Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd), not to be distracted but to remain focused on his resolve to do things differently and make a big difference in the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
“To the best of our knowledge the Amnesty Boss is doing very well and he is focused. Our people in the Niger Delta must shun the character of pulling people down as nothing can be farther from the truth. We are therefore, constrained to call on the Presidency to disregard the falsehood and the call for the suspension of Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd) as Presidential Amnesty boss. The allegations by few traditional rulers and Elders from the six States of the Niger Delta were unpatriotic, imaginary falsehood and unreasonable for leaders to make such premature moves against a true son of soil. The truth is that the Coordinator and the interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme insisted on a drastic u-turn from the way things were done at the Amnesty Programme and to do things differently” the leaders and contractors said.
