The Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), wish to resound its call to the people of the Niger Delta, especially the peaceful and productive youth of the region, to be aware of some grand plot by some retrogressive elements perfected for execution aimed at securing the discrediting of the current MD/CEO of the NDDC Prof. Nelson Brambaifa and his Board.
In a statement signed by Barrister Igbeta Ayebakuro, S.A Media/Publicity to the Ag.MD/CEO, NDDC, he said, “the intention is to use pseudo groups, hired protesters to send a false signal to the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government, thereby influencing the President to nominate of their stooges as substantive MD/CEO of the Commission. To achieve their aim these desperate politicians have recruited a number of non residents and Abuja based jobless crowd mobilisers to execute their clandestine arrangements. These self seeking but highly placed politicians would require a very minimal contribution from Niger Delta Youth and to get the needed coloration, they have also come up with a number of fake NGOs and youth bodies and would require few gullible youth to act as leaders from across the Niger Delta. These politicians want Niger Deltans to protest against ourselves and common developmental interests.”
“It is therefore imperative to not only bring these facts to the domain of the unsuspecting and innocent public, but also to put our youth in the know, that contrary to the alluring sentiments instigated by this band of mischievous Niger Delta politicians, all they seek is self enrichment at the expense of every Niger Deltan, they want to install pawns at the helms of the NDDC affair using their “Aso Rock Connections” aided by hired protesters, and then abandon the region in dare need of social, human capital and infrastructural development (which the NDDC is mandated to provide, and by which Prof. Brambaifa has taken a solid stand).”
“Our youth are advised to understand the underlying interests before rallying to support any proposed protests/demonstrations at the instance of Politicians. The observant Niger Delta Youth would have become aware by now that in less than two (2) months of his regime, Prof. Brambaifa has nearly offset all outstanding debt owed by the Commission especially as it concerns Human Capacity development, Education, Empowerment, Security and Environment Protection/remediation. Again Contractors who have being owed for over five (5) to ten(10) years are now receiving payments, and the NDDC health care support program for the aged has received a new boost after the abandonment by previous Administrations, unnecessary restrictions experienced by those willing to do transactions at the Commission’s headquarters are now being removed to ensure that the NDDC meets its mandate to the target population, and not for the enrichment of a selected few wealthy persons.”
“The so called aggrieved politicians are only angry because, the Brambaifa led Management of the NDDC has decided to act differently. It has said and stood firmly to the fact that under the current regime, it would not be business as usual, NDDC funds, Niger Delta funds would never find its way into private coffers, there would be no looting and sharing of Commission’s funds, as the resources would only be channeled to the purpose for which they were allocated “development of the Niger Delta region”, and anybody who doesn’t like that should be treated as a traitor, or worse still an enemy of the region, and should never be supported to rape our common good.”
“Any youth willing to join these protest should also ask themselves, “where are the children of those calling for the protests, the direct beneficiaries of any anticipated success or outcome of the stage managed protest? The answer would be sure that these direct beneficiaries are enjoying lives in far away European or American cities, while the fathers squander our common wealth to support their lavish lives abroad. It is true that the puppeteers of the arranged protest and outrageous media blackmails/attacks are rich enough to procure large non-Niger Delta residents to carry their spiteful banners/posters; it also remains true that their efforts would yield very little result if no internal support is given to their selfish drive. The saying is that ” the enemy outside can do us no harm, if there is no support from the enemy within” he said.
The MD advised every youth, man, and woman of the region to observe the decorum required of a civilised living, and in the existence of any doubt, people should be free to confirm through the approved channels, or come to the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt for clarification, rather than give into fake news and the pressure of sentiments peddled by self seeking politicians.
