Dr. (Mrs.) Sanwo-Olu made the presentation during the Forum of Health Service Commission/Medical Directors and CEO of the General Hospitals held recently at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.
Receiving the award, Dr. Olaniyi Oladapo expressed his delight at the unexpected presence of the First Lady who was a pioneer teacher of the School and a great pillar of support.
“This is the first time that the School of Anaesthetic Studies Badagry would have one of her own as the First Lady of Lagos State”, he said.
Dr. Olaniyi Oladapo dedicated the Award to the members of staff of the School for their unflinching support, cooperation, loyalty, resourcefulness, motivation and dedication to duties.
The Forum had invited Dr. Oladapo to make a presentation at its meeting which recently admitted new Medical Directors/CEO appointed by the State Government for some hospitals, in addition to honouring him for his leadership of providing Anaesthestic manpower which greatly assisted all the hospitals to carry out seamless surgeries
Anaesthesia, a sub-discipline in the health sector is a critical area with acute manpower shortage in Nigeria and the world. The country depends mainly on middle-level personnel trained abroad and some teaching hospitals, yet there is still a huge gap in the manpower needs of Nigeria. However, the expertise is being bridged by the State Government with the establishment of the School of Anaesthetic Studies, Badagry, in 2008.
The School, led by Dr. Oladapo, is presently seeking affiliation with the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State for an M.Sc in Medical-Surgical Nursing (Anaesthesia) to promote greater opportunities for Nurses Anaesthetist.
The ceremony had in attendance, the Chairman of the Health Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga; Permanent Secretary, Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun and other Medical Directors from Government Hospitals, Health Service Commission members and Directors, among others.
