A Vehicle Inspection Officer, Adekunle Adewale, had a nasty experience in Lagos State on the highway after he accosted a 19-year old mini bus driver,  Mohammed Yerima and impounded his vehicle over license.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the driver,  Yerima, having pleaded with him to temper Justice with mercy and he refused, he then grabbed the Inspector and beat him mercilessly on the highway.
The incident happened at the traffic light at Oba Akinjobi Way in Ikeja, Lagos, where Adewale was performing his official duty.
The driver has been arrested and charged for the alleged offence.
The Police alleged that the driver, Yerima, seriously assaulted and injured Adewale while driving the bus with registration number, JJJ 718 YA without neccessary driving particulars thereby committed the alleged offence.
He was arrested and detained at the Ikeja Police Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct. And during interrogation, Yerima told the Police that when the Inspector accosted him, he pleaded with him but he refused before he decided to beat him up.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate,  Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
