A 26-year old driver, Ayinde Olaoluwa, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly inflicting injury on a Police officer, Supol Odunlade Olanrewaju, by punching his eye with a car ignition key.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 13th August, 2024 along Isheri roundabout, Idumu area of Lagos, where the Policeman was performing his lawful duty.
The suspect, Olaoluwa, was said to have been accosted by the victim over an undisclosed traffic offence and he entered his vehicle in order to take him to the Police station for the alleged offence.
However, when the victim entered his car, the suspect drove away and took him to an undisclosed destination. And while the victim was struggling with him inside the car, he used the ignition key to punch his left eye and injured him in the process.
The victim was later rescued while the suspect was apprehended and detained at the Area M Command, Idimu Headquarters, for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged assault.
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court that the matter should be adjourned for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
However,  the defendant informed the Court that he has engaged the complainant in the settlement of the matter out of the Court, which the defendant and the prosecutor confirmed before the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, consequently struck out the matter and discharged the defendant accordingly.
