Owolabi Segun

A 40-year old Tipper driver, Owolabi Segun has landed in prison after he was charged before a Lagos court in an attempt to deceive the presiding judge by lying in the open court over traffic offence he committed in Lagos.
Segun was accosted along Alegun Road in Isolo area by the police traffic officer driving a Scenia Tipper Truck with registration number, LSR 717 XQ. The traffic officers demanded for his vehicle particulars which he could not provide. He was then taken to the station and the truck impounded and charged before Isolo Magistrate’s court for allegedly contravening Lagos State Traffic Offences.
According to police, Segun was driving on the public high way without a driver’s licence, Hacker’s Permit, Insurance, and Road Worthiness clearance.
When he was arraigned in court, he pleaded not guilty and informed the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Shonubi that he had all the papers and they were inside his vehicle parked at the station.
He claimed the police wanted to victimize him and did not ask for the vehicle particulars when he was stopped on the Highway.
He also misinformed the court that all his particulars were still valid and with him inside his vehicle on the day he was arrested.
The court ordered that Segun should be taken to the station so that he would retrieve the papers and present before the court to free him since he claimed he had all the documents.
However, when the police took Segun to the vehicle, he brought out the papers which he presented to the court with all the documents since expired.
Consequently, the court granted him bail in the sum of N150,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 14 November 2016.
