There are strong indications that Team Lagos will on Monday win more gold from boxing events going by the results coming out from Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre in Benin at the ongoing Edo 2020 National Sports Festival.

All the four boxers who fought in the first set of semi finals on Saturday won their bouts to qualify for the finals which hold on Monday.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that going by the performance of the boys, Team Lagos should expect nothing less than gold medals from the pugilists on Monday.

In the semi final bouts decided on Saturday, Shittu Afolabi of Lagos State in the 52kg defeated Chinasa Okonrokwo of Abia State by a split- decision of 3-2 points.

Omole Dolapo, recorded a technical knock out in the round two against Samuel Tosin of Ekiti State to book a ticket for the final, while Adesodun Michael beat Oyerinde Kamal of Kebbi State by a split- decision of 4-1 to qualify for the final.

In the last bout of the day, Abdulazeez Osoba, crowned his efforts with a victory against Osita Umeh of Kogi State.

While reacting on the feat, Chief Coach of Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association, Waheed Shobaloju, said the rigorous training programmes which the boxers were subjected prior to the Games paved the way for the pugilists to qualify for the finals billed for Monday, April, 12th, 2021, at the Oba Akenzua Cultural center, Benin, Edo State.

Shobolaju, who is optimistic that eight out of the eleven boxers registered for the Games would win Gold medals, said the reward system being instituted by the management of Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC, had motivated the pugilists to redouble their efforts.

Meanwhile, the second phase of semi final bouts would be concluded on Sunday at the same venue.
