The Edo State Government has said it is deploying novel initiatives to check the prevalence of quackery and irregularities in the built environment sector.
Edo Commissioner for Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, Isoken Omo, said this during a visit by the executives and members of the Edo State branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers at her office, in Benin City, the state capital.
Omo pledged to sustain the already existing relationship with the branch, promising to contribute her quota to making the institution and its members conduct their activities in a harmonious environment.
She said she has initiated and held several meetings with members of the built environment, and sensitized them on the mandate of her ministry, which includes policy formation, planning and restructuring the sector to reflect government’s plan for the environment.
The Commissioner said that the Ministry is regularising permits, developing new urban areas, and collating data that would inform the state’s urban and regional development plans.
She challenged members of the institution to take advantage of the several areas of collaboration with the ministry, charging them to ensure to check the incidence of quackery by authenticating the number of registered practitioners to ensure professionalism.
Chairman of the state’s branch of the institution, Austin Aigbekaen lauded the Ministry’s contributions to the advocacy drive of the current leadership of the institution, which, he noted, had put the institution on the national map.
