The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, has congratulated the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Ebere Okpaleke on his appointment as Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Pope Francis on Sunday named Okpaleke and 20 others as Cardinals of the church. A Cardinal is a member of the Sacred College of Cardinals, whose duties include electing the pope, acting as his principal counselors, and aiding in the government of the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world.

Senator Ekwunife described Okpaleke’s appointment as a confirmation of his humility, fidelity and commitment to the Catholic church. She notes that the appointment is providential and most exciting considering the fact that Bishop Okpaleke stood firm to his belief in the Catholic church during the time of trial.

Ekwunife further appreciated the Pope for appointing Okpaleke, whose elevation will make him the second Cardinal from Anambra State after Francis Cardinal Arinze.

The Senator on behalf of her family and the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District sent good wishes to the Cardinal designate and prayed God to strengthen him and give him the wisdom and grace to succeed.
