Ekwunife: Reminiscing The Reaction Of Nkwo Market Women

As far back as the 8th century, the latin phrase “vox populi vox dei” had become a laconic phrase for conveying political thoughts and wisdom. While some early promoters of the phrase which literary means, “the voice of the people is the voice of God”, had identified the widely used aphorism as a proverb, the phrase has remained a pith for propagating the idea that God speaks through the people.

This was exactly what happened recently when traders at Nkwo market, Enugwu-Ukwu, in an outpour of gratitude extolled the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, describing her as a Senator who is truly committed to addressing the plight of her constituents.

Their reactions were spurred by the construction of market stalls at the popular market by the quintessential federal lawmaker who had promised to construct stalls to shelter the traders when she visited the market just before she was elected. A promise she is fulfilling the same way she is accomplishing her promises in many communities across the Senatorial District.

What was striking was the conviction of the women that Senator Ekwunife if elected as the next governor of the State, will draw the seat of power closer to the people, and make Anambrarians know that a lot can be achieved by a State Governor than what is currently obtainable.

The truth in the saying that an ear that will hear does not need to be as big as a hat cannot be overemphazized, particularly at this time that Anambrarians are in search of a leader with the empathy and courage to address their developmental needs.

Considering the unparalleled records of the Senator, whom many describe as the Mother Theresa of our time, her decision to contest for the office of the governor should ordinarily put to rest the search for a governor that will truly be of, and for the people.
