The much awaited Embassy Football Competition will kick off Thursday at White Sand mini stadium, Orile- Iganmu, Lagos.
The Chairman Organising Committee, Prince Ganiu Adetunji urged football fans to come out in large number to witness the opening match of the tourney, which involves both male and female categories.
According to him, eight teams in both categories are excepted to take part in the knockout stage of the competition sponsored by Manager of Embassy International Hotel, Mr. Sunday Adewara.
In a fixtures released by the organisers, FC Phoenix would face Balogun FC, while in the female category, it would be a battle beween FC Phoenix Queens against AB Shooting Queens.
Adetunji said arrangement have been concluded to stage a hitch free tournament, stressing that all the participating teams were selected based on their football pedigree in Orile and its environs. He urged all the participating teams to abide by the rules and regulatsions and shun violence that may bring the tourney into disrepute.
“I am using this medium to inform the players to be good ambassadors of their clubs during and after the game. We won’t condone any act of hooliganism and if any club is found wanting during the tournament would be sanctioned accordingly,” he said.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s encounter, Phonenix coach, Ahmed Abioye said thee is no cause for alarm, saying that his boys are in high spirit to take their opponents to the cleaner.
“ We are aware that this competition is in knockout basis and there is no room for excuses, so I am optimistic that my team could carry the day,” he said
In a chat with PM EXPRESS, the cup donor, Adewara said he is sponsoring the tournament because of the passion he has for the round leather game and admonished the teams to shun violence during and after their game.
“My advice for the participating teams is to play the game according to the rules and regulations. I am happy that the competition is well known in Orile and its environs. It means that the tourney would attract foreign and local football agents who are interested to sell good players to Nigeria league or abroad. I wish all the teams best of luck in their outings,” he said.
