The GLOWFUX @10 Novelty Charity Football Match, organised as the final activity in the lineup of programmes marking the 10th anniversary of GLOWFUX Charity Concert, brought together children and teenagers from various beneficiary homes, foundations and grassroots football academies for a memorable sporting experience centred on unity, teamwork, talent discovery and healthy competition.
The event, which attracted distinguished personalities, representatives of supporting organisations, sports enthusiasts and media practitioners, featured a series of exciting encounters that culminated in Embrace Global Church emerging champions after defeating Jimi Benson iCare Foundation in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Among the distinguished guests at the novelty match were Alhaja Zainab Alogba, wife of the Chief Judge of Lagos State; the Education Secretary of Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo, and his wife, Alhaja Olabisi Odumbo, Woman Leader of Jimi Benson iCare Foundation; Mrs. Naomi Popoola, representing Embrace Global Church; representatives of supporting organisations, sports personalities, media practitioners and other dignitaries.
Participating homes and organisations included Record Rate Academy, Child LifeLine Orphanage, Divine Heritage Orphanage Home, Little Saints Orphanage Home, Fortune Soccer Academy, Hikanos Orphanage Home, Excellent Child Support Initiative, Rescue Children Orphanage, Lofty Skills Academy and Ayodeji Foundation.
The young participants were grouped into five competing teams representing organisations and corporate brands supporting GLOWFUX Charity Concert: Jimi Benson iCare Foundation, Embrace Global Church, Primero Transport Services, CINI Holdings and Courteville Business Solutions.
The competition officially commenced with a ceremonial kick-off performed by Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo.
The opening fixtures produced entertaining encounters, with Embrace Global Church and Primero playing out a 1–1 draw before Embrace secured a 2–1 victory in the ensuing penalty shootout.
In the second encounter, CINI Holdings staged an impressive comeback against Courteville Business Solutions, overturning a first-half deficit to secure a 2–1 victory at full time.
At the semi-final stage, Jimi Benson iCare Foundation recorded a commanding 5–0 victory over Primero, while Embrace Global Church defeated CINI Holdings 4–0 to book their place in the final.
The final encounter between Embrace Global Church and Jimi Benson iCare Foundation proved to be a keenly contested affair.
Both sides remained goalless after regulation time, necessitating a penalty shootout in which Embrace Global Church prevailed 4–3 to emerge champions of the GLOWFUX @ 10 Novelty Charity Football Match.
Speaking on the motivation behind the sporting initiative, Miss Chisom Oparaugo, Project Coordinator of GLOWFUX @ 10, explained that the novelty match was deliberately included in the anniversary programme to give children from beneficiary homes an opportunity to interact, showcase their abilities and experience the excitement of organised sporting competition.
She noted that the 10th-anniversary activities were designed to extend the GLOWFUX experience beyond the December grand celebration, creating additional platforms for engagement, inclusion, talent discovery and memorable experiences for vulnerable children and young people.
The technical coordination of the football competition was handled by Mr. Bola Yusuf, Founder of Lofty Skills Academy, a football academy dedicated to nurturing abandoned but soccer-talented children in local communities.
Lofty Skills Academy is also one of the beneficiary homes under GLOWFUX, while Yusuf served as the technical consultant for the GLOWFUX @10 Novelty Charity Match.
His involvement brought valuable grassroots football experience to the competition, reinforcing the importance of identifying, encouraging and providing opportunities for children whose sporting abilities might otherwise go unnoticed.
In his remarks, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo commended GLOWFUX for providing children from organised needy homes across Lagos State with a platform to showcase their talents.
He encouraged individuals and relevant stakeholders to support the initiative, describing it as a commendable contribution to grassroots child development.
Also speaking, Mrs. Naomi Popoola, who represented Embrace Global Church, applauded GLOWFUX for creating an inclusive platform where children from needy homes could demonstrate their physical abilities, interact with their peers and enjoy the benefits of organised sporting activities.
She pledged the church’s continued support for GLOWFUX and its forthcoming grand finale.
The novelty match also enjoyed the support of UAC Foods, Beloxxi Biscuits and Peak Milk, whose products were distributed to guests and participants, adding to the excitement and hospitality of the occasion.
Peak Milk made a particularly generous contribution through the supply of Peak Yoghurt in abundance, ensuring that guests and participants were well served with the refreshing dairy product throughout the event.
The impressive provision added a special touch to the match-day experience and demonstrated the brand’s support for an initiative dedicated to children’s happiness and wellbeing.
UAC Foods and Beloxxi Biscuits equally contributed to the success of the occasion through their product support.
The successful outing further highlighted the broader vision of GLOWFUX @ 10: using its anniversary activities to promote child development, celebrate hidden talents, strengthen inclusion and create meaningful experiences for children and teenagers in vulnerable circumstances.
As preparations continue for the grand anniversary celebration on Monday, December 28, 2026, at Ikorodu Town Hall, Bundle of Hope Child Care & Empowerment Foundation and its production consultants, Fanafillit Integrated Concepts, have expressed appreciation to all participating homes, academies, supporting organisations, corporate partners, dignitaries, technical personnel and guests whose contributions made the novelty match a success.
