End Of The Road For Ekweremadu’s Governorship Ambition As Chime Endorses Zoning

Former Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, has joined other former governors to support the zoning of the 2023 governorship seat to Enugu East Senatorial Zone.

Chime made this known when the leaders of Nkanu East Senatorial Zone led by Prof Barth Nnaji paid a visit to him.

Ex-governor Chime told his visitors what transpired when his campaign team for second term in office visited HRH Igwe Abangwu, who was the then father figure of Nsukka zone.

His words; “When we were campaigning for second term. Chief Abangwu was still there and he was like the father figure of ndi Nsukka. So when we went to his house, he actually assembled ndi Igwe. He was speaking on behalf of ndi Igwe. They were very happy with the way our administration was going and were willing to support us. Chief Abangwu said that they have told their people from Nsukka that anyone contesting against me is on his own. And that ndi Nsukka have agreed to support me”.

“Then he came up with a request. He told me that I have seen that Enugu East Senatorial Zone has taken its turn. And that I am from Enugu West Senatorial zone. That it will be good if after my tenure, I will support an Nsukka man to become the governor of Enugu State. So I came back as governor.”

“In 2013, while we were at Nike Lake holding a town hall meeting, one journalist raised his hand and I asked him, what is it? He asked that since my administration has gone half way, which zone will produce my successor at the end of my tenure. I told him it will go to North.”

“It was only reasonable that I insisted that ndi Nsukka will produce the next governor after me with the hope that after Nsukka zone, it will be a kind of circle, so that it will go to Enugu East Senatorial Zone after which it will come to Enugu West..”

Chime has joined other former governors like Chief Jim Nwobodo and Chimaroke Nnamani, who had earlier stated that it would be the turn of Enugu East Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor of Enugu State in 2023.

With the position of Chime as captured above, Senator Ike Ekweremadu will just have to toe the part of honour and support the overwhelming decision of ndi Enugu led by Gov Ugwuanyi that the next governor of Enugu State will come from Enugu East Senatorial Zone.
