The lawmaker representing Ikeja Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, has condemned the Lekki Toll Gate shooting and the violence experienced across Lagos State occasioned by the #EndSARS protest.

Making known his displeasure over the situation, Hon. Kasunmu said, “My heart bleeds profusely at this time over the unfortunate turn of events in the last 24 hours in our dear state”.

“The callous shooting of innocent, unarmed protesters at Lekki Toll Gate in the late hours of yesterday is heart-rending, evil and highly condemnable.”

“Agitation via protests is the fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.”

“No matter the attempts being made to change the narratives, the #EndSARS protests remain a historic landmark and watershed in our collective quest for a better nation. My generation and the older folks should be proud of it.

And this is why the Lagos State House of Assembly, as an institution, met at the early stage of the protest to pass an unequivocal resolution mandating government to scrap the SARS Unit of the Police and address all the issues demanded by the Youth.”

“While I condemn in totality, the infiltration of this protest by the Enemies of a Better Nigeria, who introduced violence into an hitherto peaceful and intellectual struggle, I say boldly here that those who drafted soldiers to the protest ground at Lekki Toll Gate and gave orders to shoot at innocent protesters, have soiled their hands with blood and will have hard questions to answer from the YouthNation and their Creator.”

“Declaration of curfew is not a licence for any security agent to shoot or kill.”

“I therefore, want to seize this opportunity to appeal to us all to avoid unnecessary name calling. We are in this together. I also want a better Nigeria where equal opportunities will be available for young persons like me as well as all citizens.”

“I also believe that those who laboured hard to build our society cannot turn around to destroy it.”

“Once again on behalf of the people of Ikeja Constituency 2, I, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, condemn this dastardly act and urge the Government of Lagos State to launch immediate investigation into it and fish out the perpetrators.”

“My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go to the victims. May we never witness this again in our land. #EndSARS #VictoriaAscerta” Hon. Kasunmu concluded.
