In what could be described as synergy for shared development, a closed-door meeting between the Director-General, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi and the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Mr. Ahmed Galadima Aminu, held at the latter’s office on Thursday, April 25, 2024 might have signalled a new dawn between the two government agencies.
The meeting initiated at the behest of the Energy Commission boss, Dr. Abdullahi proposes to expedite action on increased productivity within the workforce and capacity building of the two agencies. The collaboration will, inter alia, formulate template for knowledge sharing, a corollary of capacity building joint workshops that will be suited for staff of both agencies, with primary focus on energy development and efficiency as well as innovation that is technology-driven. Other areas of collaborative efforts will include;
● Collaborating on symbiotic synergy that will see staff of both agencies share knowledge and ideas that ultimately benefit both sides in the area of improved expertise and technical know-how
● Initiating discussions, public discourses where various stakeholders congregate to rub minds on policies that will further enhance both agencies’ action plans that will further accentuate the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
● Developing a template for knowledge transfer between senior cadre staff and the junior ones as a succession plan. This is germane as top management staff continue to retire from active service.
● Initiating a dual-purpose research template that will identify the challenges facing the energy sector and proposing suitable solutions to these challenges.
● Collaborating on areas for improved skills acquisition for staff of both agencies with focus on energy sector. This will see to more engagement of research centres of the Energy Commission across the country.
The Energy Commission is undergoing a rebirth, a new approach to its modus operandi, and a renewed vigour into the operations of the Commission that will not only endear the applause of the Nigerian public but also affirm that, indeed, the energy sector of the country is living up to its mandate.
