The Rivers State Government has urged benefiting Local Government Areas involved in the ongoing distribution of relief materials to ensure an even and judicious distribution of the items received from the Flood Prevention and Management Committee.

The State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, made the call during the distribution of relief materials to Opobo/Nkoro and Bonny Local Government Areas at the Central Medical Stores in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, 26th November 2025.

Speaking through the Vice Chairman of the Committee and Head of the Civil Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyingi Brown, Prof. Odu said the State Government is committed to alleviating the hardships faced by residents as a result of flooding.

The Deputy Governor reaffirmed that the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has the political will and commitment to provide relief and a sense of belonging to those affected by the flood, stressing that the materials provided are strictly for the welfare of impacted communities.

“These items should not be sold and should not be used for anything that does not benefit the people. They are meant solely to support families and individuals who have been displaced or affected by the recent flood,” the Deputy Governor emphasized.

Receiving the materials on behalf of his LGA, Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Barrister James A. James, expressed gratitude and deep respect for Governor Fubara, whom he described as “a father and a man of the people.”

He pledged to personally oversee the distribution process in his LGA, noting that his commitment is driven by a genuine passion for the welfare of his people.

Also speaking, the representative of the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area and Council Secretary, Hon. Tonye Jumbo, thanked the State Chief Executive, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the Flood Committee for the relief materials.
