In continued pursuit of proactive policing and enhanced security, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has declared the State a “no hiding place” for unrepentant criminals and their activities. He made this known during the Command’s monthly Strategic Policing Conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.
The conference was attended by senior officers, including Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of formations, sections, and tactical squads of the Command. CP Giwa charged the officers to remain dedicated, vigilant, and results-driven in their supervisory roles, stressing the need for collective commitment to rid the State of criminal elements. He also directed them to begin earnest preparations and implement proactive strategies for effective policing during the approaching “Ember Months” season, warning that negligence or unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated.
A major highlight of the conference was the decoration of 28 newly promoted officers of the Command. While congratulating them on their elevation, CP Giwa reminded the officers that promotion is not just a reward but a call to higher responsibility. He emphasised discipline, leadership, and accountability as key expectations, noting that their actions and inactions would henceforth attract appropriate commendation or sanctions.
Among those decorated was David Adio Alalade, hitherto the Acting Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Command’s Department of Finance and Administration, who was promoted from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to the substantive rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). Also promoted was Bonny Odufu, Officer in Charge of Transport, who was elevated from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). Four other officers were promoted from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Superintendent of Police (SP), while twenty-two others rose from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, DCP Alalade expressed deep appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for recommending them, the Police Service Commission (PSC) for approving the promotions, and the Commissioner for his exceptional leadership. He pledged that they would remain committed to upholding the values of the Force and discharging their duties with integrity and renewed zeal.
