EPL: Chelsea Suffer Home Defeat To West Ham

Aaron Cresswell’s 48th-minute strike was all West Ham needed to beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea’s unbeaten run in 13 league games at home to West Ham since a 3-2 defeat in September 2002, came to an end on Saturday.

West Ham had the majority of possession at the start of the game before Chelsea took over and dominated.

And a chance came for Chelsea after seven minutes as they worked the ball well with a lovely Kovacic pass into Mount, who flicked it on for Giroud. The French star took it early but could only fire it straight at Martin.

West Ham had a chance after 23 minutes when they burst up the field and Snodgrass got the ball onto his left. He came inside and crossed and there was a man there to meet the ball. The visitors should have scored that but Kepa was equal to Antonio’s effort and knocked it clear.

Just before the half-time whistle, Chelsea went very close to opening the scoring. A ball came in from James. Giroud missed it in the center. It fell to Pulisic at the back post and then he fired over the bar.

Three minutes after the break, West Ham took went ahead. And it was Aaron Cresswell who cut in on his right and managed to bend it into the bottom corner past Kepa to take the lead at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea, now trailing and under pressure to bounce back, seemed to be through on goal but a brilliant sliding, saving tackle from Fredericks saw it go out for a corner instead. Zouma then met the inswinging delivery but can only send his header wide.

After the hour-mark, West Ham had a corner after a few dreary minutes, it came in, headed clear and then swung in again. At the back post, Zouma knocked it into his own net. But it was checked on VAR and ruled out for a handball by Antonio.

As the game entered it’s final ten minutes, Chelsea sent a dangerous cross in but it was headed clear. It dropped for Emerson on the edge of the box and he cleverly tried to play in Kante. The assistant raised the flag for offside.

In the end, Chelsea disappointed their fans watching the game on Showmax as they were unable to score in their own home, and consequently suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham.
