An ex-convict, Kingsley Chukwu, was arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command on the 29th October, 2018 at about 10pm in Onipanu area of Ota.
His arrest followed a distress call received by the Onipanu Police Division that a motorcycle rider popularly known as Okada was attacked at Divine Wisdom community in Iyesi area and his bike was snatched away. Consequently, the DPO Onipanu Division, SP Sangobiyi Johnson, quickly led his anti-robbery team to the scene, combed the entire area with the assistance of the CDA members and subsequently apprehended the suspect while his accomplice escaped. Further search led to the recovery of the snatched Honda motorcycle.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and his fleeing accomplice pretended as passengers when they stopped the motorcyclist. They hit him on the head with a sharp object which made him to become unconscious before they dispossessed him of the motorcycle. He further disclosed that he had been convicted for a similar offence and was just released from prison.
The victim, Umaru Hassan, has been taken to the hospital where he is responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a serious manhunt for the escaped accomplice; he equally directed that the arrested suspect be transferred to FSARS for discreet investigation.
